Are skin consultations at salons any good?

Question by : Are skin consultations at salons any good?
I have very dry, flaky and red skin around my nostrils, yet it can get very oily. I also have lots of spider veins. I exfoliate and moisturize but nothing seems to help, plus the rest of my face is spot free (as I take good care of my skin).

I went to the doctor and he said that it was cosmetic and that there didn’t seem to be any particular skin condition which I needed treatment for.

So would a skin consultation at a salon be useful? Would they try and come up with a solution to my problem? If not who should I go to??? Thanks

Q&A: which face wash or acne treatment should i use?

Question by yayforjesus: which face wash or acne treatment should i use?
i have mild-moderate acne…its worse during my period. ive been suffering with it for about 2 years now. Ive tried everything from proactiv, arbonne acne system, the things you buy at the drug store, and clinique acne systems and cliniques formula for oily skin. clinique was controling my acne but it was never really 100% clear. i just recently started breakin out with the under the skin pimples ( 1-2 by mouth and chin). I tried proactiv again…assuming itll work…so far no help and ive been usiing for a week… I started tanning in march to prepare for prom, during which that time i was usually pimple less around the mouth but sometimes the under the skin pimples would c0me on my forehead. anyways — what are some skin care lines that are recommended… ( i usually like the 3 step cleanser – toner- and moisturizer process)

also, waht are tips tokeeep zits from coming?

i do exfoliate with a mint julep mask 1-2 times a week.

You don’t want to use too much.
Putting too many acne creams/washes on your face can actually make your face produce even more oil, causing more acne.

As a teenager, skin is never one hundred percent clear, but if you continually suffer from this after using all of the “best” over the counter acne treatments, your best bet is to make an appointment with your local dermatologist who will be able to provide you with a medication or wash that is slightly stronger than those sold in stores or television.

Another factor is the temperature of the water you are using to wash your face with. Water that is too cold will only push the dirt and oil around on your face.
Water too hot can end up increasing oil production, and making your acne worse.

Also, NEVER squeeze black heads, white head or pimple no matter how badly you want too. Although to your eyes it appears you are only squeezing one pore, the dirt actually pushes into other pores, causing them to become inflamed. Since you are having under the skin acne now, squeezing those will cause HUGE cystic pimples.

I personally use Clearasil Ultra daily face wash, and it works relatively well for me. Most other washes have really dried out my skin or made it worse.

Due to the increased hormones during your period, your skin produces more oil and you break out more. That’s unavoidable.

Anyway, my point is that your best bet would be to meet your dermatologist, tell him/her all of your problems as listed above as well as all of the medications/washes you have used. They should be able to provide something that will help you out. One more thing, some prescribed medications/washes can make acne appear worse before becoming better.

Good luck!

I have sensitive skin, and I need a good skin care routine?

Question by Kri: I have sensitive skin, and I need a good skin care routine?
I am pale white, and have fairly sensitive skin. I’m allergic to the neutrogena grapefruit face wash, so steer clear of neutrogena products. I’m okay with using different brands, just make sure they’re not too expensive. I do wear foundation, and if theres a better moisturizer than clinique, let me know. (i use that moisturizer now..) thanks!

How can I help my dry, flaky skin?

Question by Tyler: How can I help my dry, flaky skin?
My skin is not horrible, but it is not amazing either. I am a teenager and my skin appears to have problems, especially on my arms and legs. But mostly, my arms are the worst.

On my arms I have very dry, flaky, and cracked skin, it is a bit annoying and it doesn’t feel good, at all, plus i sometimes get nervous someone will look at my arms and be like… Ew.

I use a moisturizing cream every day after I shower, and it helps for like a half of an hour, and then my skin just goes back to its old flaky, dry, gross state. It looks like I have redness and these little white patches of dry skin with little white dots coming up.

It has been this way for some time now and I really want to help it but none of my self-care treatments of moisturizing, and oils are working.

If they are very red and big, then you probably need antibiotics to stop the inflamation. You can also acquire acne cream prescribed by the doctor

Otherwise, if you clean your face twice a day, drink lots of water, and sleep early, it’ll probably heal itself in some time.

Q&A: What is your acne treatment system?

Question by : What is your acne treatment system?
I have moderate to severe acne, sometimes cystic, with breakouts happening several times a week to every single day depending on different things.

I’ve used Proactiv before, twice, and had no results. I’ve also used every commerical product under the sun at drugstores. I’ve been using Exposed Skin Care which works great and is very gentle and all-natural, but it’s very expensive.

From my most recent Exposed kit, my skin flared up badly, which is to be expected, but was painful nonetheless. What I’m looking for is, for those of you who have acne, mild, moderate, or severe, what is your skin care regiment that works for you? What products are you using? I’d like to find something that works that is affordable and not $ 50-60/kit like Exposed that only lasts a month.

So, what’s your regimen? Do you use a cleanser, toner, moisturizer, etc? What brands?

Do not pick at them!
They cause scaring. Not good.
I don’t think itd cause your acne. It could be the make up you’re using. Or your diet or something. But I don’t think it’s the picking.
But seriously, don’t pick them. Unless you want really bad scaring for the rest of your life.
I’d go see a dermatologist. They can help a lot icon smile How much does picking at your skin affect acne?

If it’s real leather then go to a shoe store and pick up a can of saddle soap it’ll soften the coat and perserve your leather for years to come. If you keep using vinyl dressing it will dry the leather and evenually start cracking!, saddle soap is the best thing for any type of leather!! You can also try a place that sells saddles for horses!, for the saddle soap in a can, it looks like a can of shoe polish!.

Answer by Daniel R
I am a RDN, and one the best things you can do is BREAST FEED! Studies have found a correlation between the length of time a mother breast feeds, and the health and intelligence of the baby. Many people drink soy milk as a substitution but this is incredibly bad for many children. It is known to cause many allergies for people later in life. I am also allergic to milk, but the best thing you can do is breast feed. Some people also try formula, but this is not good either! There is no substitution for the nutrients and brain-strenghtening functions of what is in the mother’s natural breast milk.

This treatment is a non-surgical process that uses an infrared light source to tighten skin and reverse the signs of aging. The Titan heats the dermis to cause collagen contraction while protecting the skin through continuous cooling. Titan can stimulate long-term collagen rebuilding that leaves patients with tighter, younger looking skin. The treatments can take under an hour and be performed during a lunch break. But honestly, I have not herd any of my friend or their friends tell me about it. What we do use are products based on botanical principles that do work and have a great result and non harmful or painful for either pocket or body!!! we use arbonne’s nutrimincRE9 antiaging regimen. These products are not formulatted with animal products, mineral oil, or other toxins….. Mineral oil is the 2nd worse thing for the health of your skin, it is like rubbing car oil on your skin and exposing yourself to the sun, #1 is the sun which is the reason for 90% of the aging lines the rest, the 10% is mineral oil. Also using products containing animal products or byproducts you are rubbing dead animal on your skin, i know it sound too graphic but that is how it is. You see there are these rendering plants that pick all dead animals from the road, meatmarkets, etc and they put them in a huge pot, squash everything inside, boil it and the oil that comes above is what other companies use to formulate thier “beauty” products. So that is something you could do instead of risking with something not everybody has herd ffom….. anyway, check their site out, you have nothing to loose, only the saggy and anoying age lines….. because if by any chance thier is something you do not like form the line they will return your money, and i don’t think this treatment will do the same if the results are not seen ….so that is why i tried it and liked it….. so far it has done a very good job with my family including my husabnd and friends and me…..

Have you considered seeing a doctor or dermatologist? The could give you treatment suited to your skin type like antibiotic tablets or cream.

My skin was always slightly sensitive to BP, so I used DUAC Once Daily Cream, which is an active antibiotic cream, which I found works quite well without irritation.

You could consider antibiotic-tablets like oxytetracycline or erythromycin to clear up acne. I advise you see a specialist about these options, and I hope your skin gets better.

Experiences with dermatologists? Skin problems? HELP!?

Question by The FAME: Experiences with dermatologists? Skin problems? HELP!?
Okay so I’m 13 years old and I get about 2-3 regular pimples a week and sometimes some white heads in between my eye brows or on my nose. I have pretty dark under eye circles, and medium-large pores on and around my nose. After a pimple finally goes away, it usually leaves a dark spot even if I don’t pick it. I use the Clinique 3 step skin care system twice a day (cleanser, toner, moisturizer), I use an exfoliate, use masks, and acne spot treatments but nothing gives me the results I want. I think I want to make an appointment with a dermatologist, but I just want to know if you or anyone you know has any experiences with one. Is it a waste of money? Did they help you change your skin completely?

Thanks in advance for all of your answers, and 10 points will be given to the best answer. icon smile Experiences with dermatologists? Skin problems? HELP!?

Well, you could go to a dermatologist but he/she’ll prescribe you expensive stuff. When I was your age I was prescribed a cream that was over $ 100 and didn’t work. You’re young and going through puberty, so annoying as it is, it’s normal to have pimples. Now that I’m older, I started getting a lot more pimples, and worse, than before, so I started going to a dermatologist for acne. This dermatologist prescribed me a whole system of stuff, and it has started to work (plus a pill that has some terrible side-effects for some people). I think since you’re still young, you should maybe try to change your diet (get rid of dairy, take fish-oil supplements) and what you use on your face.
